    An Embankment Preservation Coalition exhibit at Casa Colombo Center for the Arts, 380 Monmouth Street, Jersey City, tells the story of Italian immigration to the Village section of Downtown Jersey City and the growth of the first Italian Roman Catholic parish in New Jersey, Holy Rosary on Sixth Street. Themes explored include the parallel growth of the community, church, and railroads in the Downtown, the effects of local government projects and broader economic and social trends on Village decline, and opportunities for renewed vibrancy.

    Save the date for the Coalition's Annual Members Meeting. Hear what's happening at the Surface Transportation Board with the review it is conducting of the Harsimus Branch.
  • Tuesday, September 12, 2017, 9:15-noon
    An East Coast River Relay event, a five-mile bike tour (van seats are available for those who reserve by September 8) features Hoboken's resiliency projects.
  • Does your group want to learn more about the 150-year-old Harsimus Branch and its stone Embankment, determined eligible for the National Register of Historic Places? Are you interested in a trail network throughout the region? We can tailor a presentation to your interests.
  • Sunday, May 21, 2017, 4 pm
    Helene Stapinski, noted author of Five-Finger Discount: A Crooked Family History, will launch her new book, Murder in Matera, here in Jersey City. The Embankment Preservation Coalition and the Italian Educational and Cultural Center are teaming up to sponsor the event, at Casa Colombo, 380 Monmouth Street.

    Join Embankment Coalition volunteers to polish up the "Hidden Jewel in the Heights" for its Spring debut.
  • Wednesday, February 8, 7:30 pm
    Three Embankment Preservation Coalition board members will describe the history, goals for public re-use, and status of the historic Harsimus Branch. They will also solicit endorsements for a comment to the federal agency that will decide its future. Place: Pershing Field Community Center, 201 Central Avenue, Jersey City, NJ 07307.
  • Sunday, October 16, 2016, 5-6:30 pm
    The Annual Members Meeting of the Embankment Preservation Coalition is set for Sunday, October 16, from 5 to 6:30 pm at Grace Church Van Vorst, 39 Erie Street (entrance on 2nd). Speakers lined up include Jersey City Mayor Steven Fulop and Parks Coalition President Laura Skolar. Plus our own slide talk on history and vision for the Harsimus Branch.
  • Thursday, September 15, 2016
    Barcade, 163 Newark Avenue, set aside this entire day to raise funds for the Embankment Preservation Coalition. Coalition members also spent the evening there, talking with people about our project and gathering signatures for a comment to the Surface Transportation Board.
  • Saturday, May 14, 1-3 pm
    Dr. D. James Baker, currently with the Clinton Foundation Climate Initiative and former head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), described the United Nations Paris Summit agreement by 177 nations to reduce carbon pollution, build resilience to climate change effects, and expand clean energy economies. A focus of the talk was the role of landscapes, including in Jersey City.
